Today, Texas Governor Greg Abbott unveiled the Texas Space Commission at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, marking a significant step forward for the great State of Texas in the space industry. The commission's main goal is to solidify Texas' role as a leader in space exploration and development.

The commission's launch ceremony was held today, Tuesday, March 26, 2024, and included the introduction of the Texas Space Commission Board of Directors and the Texas Aerospace Research and Space Economy Consortium (TARSEC) Executive Committee. These groups will play vital roles in driving Texas' future in space exploration.

With the Texas Space Commission, our great state will have a group that is responsible for dreaming and achieving the next generation of human exploration in space, said Governor Greg Abbott. Texas is the launchpad for Mars, innovating the technology that will colonize humanity’s first new planet. As we look into the future of space, one thing is clear: those who reach for the stars do so from the great state of Texas.

In a press release today, Governor Abbott emphasized Texas' historical significance in space exploration, dating back to NASA's Johnson Space Center, which has been pivotal in manned spaceflight. He highlighted Texas' contribution to President Kennedy's vision of landing a man on the moon and expressed excitement about Texas being at the forefront of human exploration in space.

The announcement at NASA's Johnson Space Center was attended by notable figures such as Speaker Dade Phelan, Representative Greg Bonnen, Representative Dennis Paul, NASA's Johnson Space Center Director Vanessa Wyche, and other leaders from the state and aerospace industry.

Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick commended Texas' legacy in space exploration and expressed confidence in the commission and consortium to maintain Texas' position as a global leader in space innovation.

The Texas Space Commission will work toward Texas' leadership in civil, commercial, and military aerospace activities by promoting innovation and integrating space industries into the state's economy. With these initiatives, Texas is set to continue its pioneering journey into space exploration and development, ensuring a bright future for space innovation in the Lone Star State.
