A quaint little town with a big-city vibe, Fredericksburg is the seat of Gillespie County and, according to the 2010 census, boasts a booming population of only 10,530. Those 10,530-plus residents will make you feel like you're staying in a city the size of Houston and as fun as the Texas State Fair. One travel guide has recently deemed it the Most Picturesque Small Town in America.

Fredericksburg was established in 1846, named after the Prussian Prince Frederick. Many old-time German residents still refer to Fredericksburg by its slang name "Fritztown". The small city is only eighty miles west of Austin but offers the feeling of being far away in the middle of nowhere.

If you're looking for a place to snap lots of selfies or spend a romantic weekend, Fredericksburg is your honey hole. Promising creature comforts and never-ending eye candy, "Fritztown" is your secret hiding spot.

The topography, architecture, scenery, and amazing history make this a top spot in Texas to sneak away to for destressing or to get hitched. Whatever your reason for getting away to the center of the Lone Star State, Fredericksburg has your back, as you'll see in the photos below.

However, the photo gallery below doesn't do the city justice. You'll need to see it in person, which is easy since it's only a three-hour drive from Abilene.

Founded by Commissioner General Baron Otfried Hans von Meusebach of the "Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas", Fredericksburg was created to protect the emigration, education, political and economic growth of working-class Germans. Baron von Meusebach renounced his noble title and became known in Texas as John O. Meusebach. The area's Barons Creek was named in Meusebach's honor.
