With the rise of smartphones came the rise of mobile gaming. Mobile games like Angry Birds, Candy Crush and Wordle are recognized by everyone across the United States. The prevalence of these games makes it understandable that they're the most popular games in several states, including Colorado, Alabama, Massachusetts and more.

But what about Texas? You would think the Lone Star State's most popular game would be one of those titles, but I was shocked to find out what it actually is. The most popular mobile game in Texas, based on Google Trends search data in the first year of each game's release, is called Ludo King.

You might be familiar with the board game, Ludo, which is a game for two to four players that involves racing four tokens from start to finish according to the rolls made on a single die. That game was then digitized into the mobile game Ludo King in 2016. If you're like me, then you've never heard of this mobile game.

Due to my unfamiliarity with the game, I asked a few other Texans if they’d ever heard of it. One man who was born and raised in Texas said he was familiar with the original board game, but he'd never heard of the mobile game before. Another born and raised Texan confirmed that she had also never seen or heard of a game called Ludo King.

I’m sure there are plenty of you out there that love the game and are confused as to how some people don’t know about it. There obviously has to be some popularity with the game in order for it to earn the title of the most popular mobile game in Texas, but I find it odd. I expected it to be a game that everyone is familiar with whether they’ve actually played it or not, like Candy Crush or Wordle.
