He Said He Would Cover The Cost Of Hotel Then Asked Me For Half At Check In!

So, I take a trip with my new man and this is our FIRST out of town trip. He said he would cover the hotel prior to going. Well, we get there and at CHECK IN he asked me for half. Sure enough wanted me to basically pay  for half the room. Needless to say that was a downer, but when I mentioned this to my friends they say it's because it was the 1st trip and he was still being respectful of the situation. I say Nah...he still should of paid. What do you think?
