For as long as I can remember, corner stores were a neighborhood staple. All the kids would beg their parents for permission to walk to the closest convenience store to get some snacks. It brought so much joy to feel the independence of walking to the store and paying for my Hot Cheetos with nacho cheese.

Changes to our closest corner store are common. Town and Country became Stripes and 7-Elleven became DK. Many other locations were sold to mom-and-pop brands as well.

According to  Fox Business, 7-Eleven will close 444 locations across the United States; The reason is a huge decline in sales. The major factors are the decline in cigarette sales, as well as less traffic and inflation.

Even though it's closing nearly 450 stores, 7-Eleven says it is not closing its doors. They have over 13,000 stores across the United States and Canada, which means the closures are only 3 percent of locations.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR TEXAS

I have not seen a 7-Eleven in the Permian Basin for years. DK came in and bought all the locations in the area. The more I traveled around Texas, I would see a store pop up here and there. The more I traveled around the US, the more 7-Ellevens caught my eye.

Unfortunately, a list of stores has not been released. The remaining stores will be food-focused since it's the highest-selling category for 7-Eleven.

Don't panic just yet! For now, you can still buy your big gulp and mix all the fountain drinks to make a "suicide" drink.
