When springtime comes around Texans won't miss a chance for a photo op in a field of bluebonnets. Some will take their whole families to a shoot, others do it solo, or some just take their fur babies.

Early Sighting Of Bluebonnets
The first day of spring is March 20th, but Texans are already spotting bluebonets in full bloom.
Big Bend National Park reported scattered sightings of the Texas state flower. According to Chron, the flowers have been spotted near River Road FM170.
There have also been sightings in Central Texas in Bastrop County.
Why Are Bluebonnets Blooming Early This Year?
It's hard to pinpoint when bluebonnets will bloom each year. You have to take into account the location, temperatures, and moisture. The blue flower can bloom anytime from January to June.
The early bloom this year could be because of the unusually warm weather for this time of year. Another factor is the rainfall from last year because the seeds usually spread in fall.
Wow! There Are Six Species of Bluebonnets?
Yes, six!
Each species is considered the Texas state flower. In Central and East Texas, most bluebonnets are the Texas Bluebonnets (Lupinus texensis) and the Sand Bluebonnets (Lupinus subcarnosus). The Sand Bluebonnets are more common on sandy soils in Southeast Texas.
If you are in the Trans Pecos area, you will most likely see the Desert Bluebonnets (Lupinus Concinnus). The Plains Bluebonnet (Lupinus plateensis) is in the northern Panhandle and the Perennial Bluebonnet (Lupinus perennis) is found in East Texas.
Will We See A Big Bluebonnet Season This Year?
Due to the drought experienced in the summer of 2024, Texas is likely to see fewer bluebonnets this year.
