A proper biopic centered around the life of the late rap legend Tupac Shakur has been in the works for years, but the wheels look to have finally been set into motion over the past several months. A new development in the making of the film was announced when news broke that actress Lian Amado would be portraying former Hot 97 personality Angie Martinez in her role in the movie.

"What a dream!" Amado wrote on Instagram with a photo of herself in costume as Martinez. "THANK YOU GOD. Thank you @lthutton @boomlife@someysinclair @iboogiecabrera for this opportunity! So excited to say I'm playing #AngieMartinez in the #Tupac film, #ALLEYEZONME. Grew up listening to her, want to make her proud!"

Angie Martinez was an integral voice in reporting the east-coast/west-coast beef of the mid '90s that stemmed from friction between Tupac and Death Row Records and the Notorious B.I.G. and his Bad Boy Records team.

She had a vested interest in the beef, given her distinction as "the voice of New York" during that era, Martinez interviewed Tupac during his stops in New York City and was the one to announce the unfortunate news of his death back in September of 1996.

"I had to tell the whole city," she says. "Mind you, there's no Twitter, no Instagram ... People in New York found out Tupac died from me."

Martinez has since moved on to rival radio station Power 105 after splitting with Hot 97 in 2014, but Amado's portrayal of her in All Eyez On Me is a testament to her legacy as an icon in New York radio and is sure to invoke memories of her days on the station where hip-hop lives.
