5 Huge Red Flags for People Moving to Midland/Odessa
Are you thinking about breaking up with your current city? Maybe it's time to move on because it's giving you major ick. Midland and Odessa have enough good reasons to move out here but what about the red flags? Here are some of the important ones to look out for.
1. OUTRAGEOUS HOUSING MARKET
Good luck finding an affordable house out here. Odessa is more affordable than Midland but still pretty pricey. If you are looking for a 40-year-old house no less than $250,000, this is the place for you! Oh, you will just rent? Renting costs more than a mortgage out here.
2. TRAFFIC IS HORRIBLE
Midland and Odessa are considered small towns, but we have a large population due to the oil field work. Be ready to wait at a traffic light a couple of times, especially during rush hours. Add construction to the intersection for a little razzle-dazzle, and be ready to sit at that light for 10 minutes.
3. FOUR SEASONS IN ONE WEEK
Are you a pumpkin spice girlie and love the fall weather? Maybe you love summer and the hot dry weather. Good news! You can experience every season in one week out here. There was one week when we experienced an almost 20-degree drop from one day to the next. Oh, don't worry we got those 20 degrees back in that same week.
4. ROAD CONDITIONS NEVER IMPROVE
You can only imagine how bad the roads are here due to the high traffic of the oilfield. New streets tend to not last long out here. Potholes tend to pop up on the daily in Midland and Odessa. The drainage system when it rains in both cities is non-existent, so the water tends to collect and stay on the streets causing major potholes.
5. GAS PRICES - HIGHER THE BETTER
Low gas prices aren't celebrated out here. The biggest thing Midland/Odessa are known for is crude oil. If the gas prices are up, that means a barrel of oil is as well. Our economy thrives if the oilfield does. Higher prices equal a better economy.
