Young Dolph Murder Suspect Sentenced to Two Years in Prison After Violating Supervised Release on Separate Charge
One of the men charged in Young Dolph's murder has reportedly been sentenced to two years in prison on an unrelated charge to Doph's killing.
On Tuesday (April 12), federal Judge Mark Norris sentenced Justin Johnson to two years in prison for a previous gun charge after the Memphis man violated terms of his supervised released, according to local Memphis news outlet ActionNews 5. Johnson pleaded guilty to the violations in court, which include "not being regularly employed, missing mandatory drug screenings and therapy, failing to seek permission before leaving the jurisdiction and being arrested."
The latter two violations occurred in connection with Johnson being charged in Young Dolph's murder this past January. Johnson reportedly told Judge Norris during Tuesday's hearing that he is ready to put the prior charges in his rear-view because he has "a lot going on with other charges."
Judge Norris reportedly noted he was "bitterly disappointed" with Johnson, whom the judge said "squandered" the opportunity given to him by the court in his previous case.
XXL has reached out to the Memphis Police Department for comment.
Johnson, 23, is one of two men, along with Cornelius Smith, 32, who is charged with directly shooting and killing Young Dolph on Nov. 17, 2021. Police issued a warrant for Johnson in January. A week later, Johnson was captured by U.S. Marshals in Indiana. Cornelius Smith was already in custody at Desoto County Jail in Desoto, Miss. for a previous arrest from Dec. 9.
Both men have pleaded not guilty in Young Dolph's killing. Last month, it was reported that Johnson had been assaulted in prison.
