The Weeknd Almost Collaborated With Prince

In a new interview with Wall Street Journal, The Weeknd discusses drawing inspiration from David Bowie and working with Daft Punk on "Starboy." He also says he was planning to collaborate with Prince before the legendary musician's death.

The Canadian artist says he was scheduled to get in the studio with Prince before passed away of an opioid overdose this past April. Due to a paywall on the WSJ website, XXL isn't able to uncover any more quotes or details regarding Abel's near-collaboration with Prince. The "False Alarm" singer also explains why he switched up his iconic hairstyle. The Weeknd says, “I could only sleep on one side of my face. Now the sleep is amazing, the shower is amazing because I don’t have to spend two hours cleaning it. I didn’t know how much I wanted it until I did it.”

As aforementioned, Abel also talks about drawing inspiration from the late, great musician David Bowie. “I just love Bowie, I think he’s the ultimate inventor,” The Weeknd says. Additionally, he describes working with Daft Punk on "Starboy," the lead single from The Weeknd's upcoming album of the same name.

“Their studio is like a spaceship, there’s a lot of gear. But the way they make music, the way they explain it, is very cinematic. It’s like they’re reading a page out of a novel - ‘We want to make sure that at the end, it feels like the sun’s coming up, and maybe there’s a car chase.’ They can get technical, but it was interesting how they visualize making music.”
