Tupac Shakur’s stepfather, Mutulu Shakur, is up for parole after serving 30 years of a 60-year sentence for his involvement in a deadly 1988 robbery of a Brinks armored truck which a guard and two police officers were killed.

According to the Associated Press, the 65-year-old Black Panther member's parole hearing is scheduled to take place this week at the federal penitentiary in Victorville, Calif., where he’s serving out his sentence, according to U.S. Justice Department spokesman Peter Carr.

Mutulu Shakur was sentenced for conspiracy to aid bank expropriation, not the actual $1.6 million robbery of an armored truck where Peter Paige, a Brinks security guard, was killed during the heist in October 1981.

Paige's son, Michael, describes the thought of Mutulu possibly walking out of federal prison a freed man as "incomprehensible" and "sickening."

"That's the going rate? Thirty years for at least three lives that were taken?" he said. "I was 16 years old when he was killed by these animals. Not a day goes by that I don't think about my father."

Along with Peter Paige, two police officers, Waverly Brown and Sgt. Edward O'Grady, were shot and killed in an ambush after stopping the truck at a roadside checkpoint. Mutulu was added to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list after the heist. He remained on the run until he was arrested in Los Angeles in 1986.

Mutual was also convicted of aiding the 1979 prison escape of Joanne Chesimard, who goes by the name of Assata Shakur. The 68-year-old activist is currently in exile in Cuba and is the only woman on the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted Terrorist list with a $2 million bounty for her capture.

Mutulu has maintained his innocence since his arrest. At his trial in the 1980s, his attorney argued there was no proof that his client participated in the robberies or aided in the prison escape.

Back in February, unconfirmed reports surfaced that Mutulu Shakur was freed from federal prison but VLADTV spoke with Mopreme Shakur, 2Pac's stepbrother, who confirmed that his father was still incarcerated.

Actor Jamie Hector, who is known for his role as Marlo on HBO's classic drama series The Wire, will portray 2Pac’s stepdad in the upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic, All Eyez On Me.
