Janet Jackson Meets With Hurricane Harvey Survivors Before Houston Concert [VIDEO]
Beyonce wasn’t the only R&B superstar who met with Hurricane Harvey survivors on Friday (Sept. 8). Pop icon Janet Jackson came through Houston and made a surprise appearance at the George R. Brown Convention Center to visit evacuees who are sheltered at the arena.
According to KHOU.com, Janet was accompanied by her brother, Randy, and Houston Mayer Sylvester Turner as she toured the facility. The R&B mom spent time with her fans and took pictures. Janet met with one special person, Brid'gell Rice, who suffers from epilepsy and had a seizure early that morning.
"She really gave me a hug and asked if I was ok," Rice told KHOU. "I was just so surprised, shocked that I didn't have a black out from being so excited."
Other survivors praised Janet for her selfless act. After she left the GRB, the "Control" singer headed over to NRG stadium to meet with evacuees there as well.
In addition, Janet will perform tonight (Sept. 9) at the Toyota Center as part off her "State of the World" tour. The Grammy-winning singer announced that all proceeds from the show will go directly to charities helping in the ongoing relief efforts in Houston.
Janet launched her "State of the World" tour in Lafayette, La., on Thursday (Sept. 7). The singer kicked off her trek with a strong message about the current racial tensions in America. Janet has several shows in Texas next week, you can peep her full tour itinerary at Songkick.com.
