Christine Lozano’s New Series Seeks To Change The Vertical Film World
Christine Lozano is not new to high-stakes storytelling. Beyond her work as an actress, writer, director, and producer, she also holds one of the coolest titles in rock history: the only house photographer for Johnny Depp’s legendary Viper Room in the ’90s. That means she documented some of rock music’s most iconic figures during one of the most electric eras in entertainment. She knows chaos. She knows edge. She knows how to capture a moment.
Now she’s bringing all of that energy to a new project filmed entirely right here in El Paso.
“BirdDog” Is Taking Vertical Film Seriously
Let’s be honest. The vertical film space is crowded. Scroll through TikTok or Instagram and you’ll find no shortage of melodramatic werewolf romances and soft-core vampire porn. A lot of it feels interchangeable.
BirdDog is not that.
Created and written by Christine, BirdDog is a high-octane espionage thriller that follows a ragtag crew of FBI rejects recruited into a covert unit under CISA, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. These so-called “BirdDogs” uncover a rogue government operation harvesting citizens’ DNA, creating flawless replicants, and eliminating anyone still fully human.
The series blends the sharp, character-driven tension of Slow Horses with the dystopian paranoia of Blade Runner. Think ensemble chaos, moral gray zones, and kinetic pacing that feels closer to a Guy Ritchie crime caper than anything currently dominating the vertical algorithm.
And it’s all set in the Sun City.
A Personal Front-Row Seat
I was attached to BirdDog early on to play one of the main characters, so I’ve had the rare privilege of seeing some of the twists Christine has packed into this story.
What makes it even more exciting is the format.
Vertical storytelling isn’t a gimmick anymore. It’s becoming a legitimate narrative playground. Instagram and TikTok are full of creatives experimenting with intense, character-driven stories built specifically for how we actually hold our phones. BirdDog doesn’t just participate in that space. It aims to compete in it.
And having something this ambitious anchored in El Paso? That matters.
