El Paso is a very bilingual city. Our proximity to Mexico practically guarantees peeps are speaking Spanish regularly and even those that aren't fluent, understand at least some.
A ton of El Pasoans speak Spanish ... 67% according to a recent study ... and, (thanks mostly to Fort Bliss and the constant influx of military from all over the country), there's a pretty decent number of other languages being spoken here.
Now, a study by Preply says the 915 is the MOST bilingual city in the entire USA.
According to Preply, 1 in 5 Americans speaks more than one language with 21% of the country being bilingual. The percentage of bilingual peeps in El Paso, (39.44%), is double that.
The majority of the population in El Paso is Spanish-speaking, with the Spanish-speaking population surpassing non-Spanish-speaking people as the majority in 1965. With a population of 685,434, El Paso is the sixth-largest city in Texas and the 22nd-largest city in the United States.
