Lubbock Roads Alert: Bridge Work Set to Delay Traffic Next Week
Construction on the US 87 Bridge Project continues here in Lubbock County, and TxDOT just announced that several lanes will be closed all night and into the morning on Wednesday, October 21. If you plan on driving near US 87 south of Woodrow, then you may need to look for alternate routes. At the very least, you better expect delays.
Soon-to-Be Lane Closures In Lubbock
If you didn't know, construction of a brand new bridge at the intersection of FM 41 and US 87 began in April 2026, and is expected to be complete sometime in 2027.

On Wednesday, October 21, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. on Thursday, FM 41 at US 87 will be closed to all traffic. Road crews need to have time to safely place a deck on the new bridge, along with other additions.
Detours will have to be made for both east and westbound traffic in the area, so drivers, consider this your warning.
Lubbock County Bridge Project
The lane closures are a part of the bridge project meant to rehabilitate the bridge at US 87 and FM 41. I know, "rehabilitate" is a funny word in the context of construction. Basically, this project will add to and improve the structure of what's already there while making sure the frontage road associated with the FM 41 exit ramp is appropriately updated as well.
In fact, this is just phase 3 of 6 in the massive project ending with adding the final pavement touchups to the entire project area.
Lubbock drivers can keep up with this entire project for future lane closures and detours by visiting TxDOT's Bridge Project webpage. Current lane closures in and around Lubbock can also be seen through the interactive map, highlighting the spots currently inaccessible to drivers.
Lubbock growing is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately, with expansion comes construction delays. Lots and lots of construction delays.
