Greg Abbott Allocates Emergency Resources Ahead of Flash Flooding This Week

In anticipation of flash flooding dangers across portions of West Texas, Gov. Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to allocate resources tied to a state emergency response.

Severe weather and flash flooding warnings are expected over the next several days due to slow-moving storms traveling across the entire state. The main threats are expected during the first half of the week with the primary hazards being rainfall, flash flooding, damaging wind gusts, and large hail.

A Message from Governor Abbott

All West Texans are advised to stay up to date with their local weather forecasts and plan their travel accordingly.

Emergency response resources directed toward supporting local severe weather response operations include the following:

• Rescue teams, boats, and rescue swimmers from Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service
• Personnel monitoring roadway conditions from the Texas Department of Transportation
• Game Wardens and hoisting helicopters from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
• All-terrain vehicles with medics and Severe Weather Support Packages from the Texas Department of State Health Services
• Power-outage monitoring and coordination with utility providers from the Public Utility Commission of Texas
