Literally, nobody wins in this situation.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: It has to be hard to be a cop. But it's harder being homeless.

I feel bad for everyone involved in the video at the bottom of this article.

Cracking Down on Good Samaritans

Look, I get it. The homeless crisis in our country is out of control, and city leaders are under a lot of pressure to figure out a solution, but giving tickets to the kind-hearted folks who come out to help the homeless is just wrong. You can tell the cop in the video didn't want to do it, he's just following orders.

I wonder what would happen if they just, didn't? I've had cops let me off with a warning plenty of times, but I'm sure they warned these people multiple times already. But still, are you going to get punished if you just don't right the ticket? If there are any police reading this article, let me know in the comments what would happen if you refused to write the ticket. Could you not lie and say they left before you got there? Turn off that body cam? Probably not.

The Controversial Rationale:

And whose decision is it to turn off the lights to make it more dangerous for the volunteers? That usually comes down to the City Manager. In some cities, the Mayor serves as the City Manager, and that looks like the case in Houston. So Sylvester Turner would be the heartless S.O.B. that signed off on this.

Took it in Stride

My hat's off to the guy who is the subject of the video. He seemed to take it in stride, although I do love the face he made at the end.

Keep up the good work, my man.
