How the FBI Plans to Disrupt Cybercrime Networks

The new campaign will not only target cybercriminals but also the infrastructure, tools, and financial systems that support their activity. The FBI says the initiative will focus on applying pressure to criminal networks by working with international partners, law enforcement agencies and private industry to identify and dismantle cyber threats at their source.

Federal data shows that more than 1 million complaints were made last year in the United States about cybercrime, and losses exceeded $20 billion.

FBI Officials Send a Message to Cybercriminals

Daniel Faith, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI San Antonio Field Office, said, “Working with partners across the globe, we are sending a clear message: there is no safe harbor for those who target Americans.”

Authorities say there are still things that everyone needs to be aware of, for example, ransomware continues to be one of the most disruptive threats, impacting critical sectors such as hospitals, manufacturers and government systems.

It’s important to stay vigilant to all possible cybercrimes. Cybercrimes can pose a risk to your financial security, personal privacy and national infrastructure.

If you or anyone you know becomes a victim of online fraud or cyber-related crimes, make sure you report the incident through the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.
