Weldon Kenneth Bowen enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on August 3, 1945. For perspective, we are closer to the year 2100 than we are to his enlistment date. The World War II veteran was born in Luling, Texas (home of the world's largest Buc-ee's). Bowen completed his Basic Combat Training and was stationed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington. He was honorably discharged in August, 1946. He received multiple awards for his service, including the Good Conduct Medal and Expert Rifleman. Bowen values these awards, but there is something else he would like to receive.

Weldon Bowen's Wish For His 100th Birthday

Bowen will be celebrating his 100th birthday on September 5, 2026. He is a resident of the Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home in Tyler. According to Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, Bowen is hoping to receive 100 birthday cards in honor of turning 100 years old. How about we flood this veteran's mailbox with birthday greetings?

How To Send Bowen a Birthday Card

Bowen is requesting these cards for his centennial celebration through the Veterans Land Board's 100 for 100 program. This project is an outreach effort coordinated by the Veterans Land Board and the Texas General Land Office to garner community support for Texas State Veterans Home residents as they celebrate this incredible milestone. You can show your support and help celebrate this momentous occasion by sending birthday cards to Mr. Bowen here:
