It’s no secret that Dave Chappelle is fan of hip-hop. In fact, the veteran comedian is friends with some of the best rappers in the game like Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Common and The Roots crew. During his guest appearance on Ebro In the Morning on Monday (July 31), Chappelle was asked about his thoughts on JAY-Z’s 4:44 album.

"It's a record for a person of my time," he said of the critically acclaimed LP. "It's the first time, I think, that a guy of his age can make a relevant record. It's fun to see a genre like hip-hop be mature like this."

"JAY-Z went to space and came back. He's a billionaire from Brooklyn, from Marcy, I appreciate that," he continued. "And to his credit, if I had that kind of money you'd never see my ass again."

Chappelle also admired Kendrick Lamar and his Damn album. He talked to the Compton rhymer for a special piece for Interview magazine. "I enjoyed my conversation with him. He was very open," he said.

Chappelle is in New York this week to perform a special 14-night residency at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. The run includes includes four nights with Roots, two nights with Chris Rock and shows with Erykah Badu, Daily Show host Trevor Noah, Childish Gambino, Ali Wong and Solange. A special guest is slated for Aug. 15 but has not yet to be announced. Chance the Rapper will join Chappelle at his Aug. 17 show, while Hill will appear on Aug. 20 and Beyoncé on Aug. 23.
