Chance The Rapper to Drop New Album This Week
After an earlier report revealed Chance The Rapper would be dropping a new album this week, the Chicago artist has confirmed he will not be releasing an album this week. However, Chano shares that he has been busy at work. "Sorry no album this week, def been in the stu tho. 😎," Chance wrote in a Twitter post.
Chance The Rapper has been teasing new music and now the rapper reveals he's ready to drop an album this week.
In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Chano revealed the project will be releasing this week but wouldn't give an exact release date. "I'm excited for everybody to get that," he said. "It's going to come out just in time for the Special Olympics."
While the 2018 Special Olympics were already held from July 1through July 6, Chance has a Special Olympics 50th Anniversary concert scheduled for Saturday (July 21), meaning his new album may release on Friday (July 20).
The Emmy-nominated rapper, who is known for releasing his projects free through SoundCloud, also didn't say where the record would be available but said he's not against selling his music.
“I’ve never been against selling music,” he told the publication. “Music has value. I put my music out there for free because I wanted people to see and notice it as a beacon for what I’m doing, in terms of how unorthodox I wanted my approach and my delivery of each piece of music to be."
The project will be Chance's first solo record since the release of his 2016 mixtape, Coloring Book. The project went on to win the 2017 Grammy for Best Rap Album, becoming the first streaming-only project ever to win a Grammy.
Although Chano has a new album on the way, it isn't the highly-anticipated collaboration project with Kanye West, which Chance says is closer to reality. The two have "casually" worked on two songs in Wyoming during Chano's visit.
“We’re up in the mountains around these wild animals—it’s very different out there—and we got some music done, and then he asked me if he could do an album with me,” Chance said. “I don’t know of a timeline on it yet, the trajectory of it, but he’s coming here to work on it some more. We’ve just started making it, but I don’t want to manipulate the situation and impose any time frame, because that can hinder you.”
Chance The Rapper's sold out concert will take place this Saturday at the Huntington Bank Pavilion in Chicago. Other performers include Usher, Francis and the Lights, Smokey Robinson, Jason Mraz, and more.
