Calling all adrenalin junkies. Summertime is synonymous with vacations and road trips. Some Abilenians head out to enjoy big attractions at various amusement parks around the state. There are some big ones to choose from. You'll find Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Fiesta Texas, Sea World, and others scattered all over the great state.

Most amusement parks take pride in their roller coasters. Whether it's a wooden coaster or the newest design, roller coasters have always been a fan favorite. It seems like there's always a constant battle for the biggest, tallest, fastest, most intense experience. Roller coasters are serious business for some folks, so much so, that they've been ranked. Iron Rattler - Six Flags Fiesta Texas

This has thrill ride written all over it. The Iron Rattler is a hybrid coaster made of wood and metal. You'll enjoy a jaw-dropping 171-foot drop and reach speeds up to 70 mph. This one is definitely worth a trip.

Wonder Woman Golden Lasso Coaster - Six Flags Fiesta Texas

This single rail coaster with a 90-foot drop is no joke. I think single-rail coasters are the best. They give you a wide-open-air experience like no other.

New Texas Giant - Six Flags Over Texas

This one is a mammoth. Some even call it one of the best steel hybrid coasters in the world. It has plenty of speed topping out at 65 mph. You'll climb up to 153 feet only to be dropped at a 79-degree steep angle. Being reasonably close to Abilene, this is a definite one to try.

Texas Stingray - Sea World San Antonio

The coaster may go a little slower than the others at 55 mph, but the Texas Stingray is an all-wooden coaster. It's still a force to be reckoned with. There's a 100-foot drop in the ride and over 3,300 feet of wooden track.

Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast - Six Flags Over Texas

This is one of my favorites. The coaster uses electromagnetic technology. That means you'll hit 0-70 mph in just 3.8 seconds. With an elevation of 236 feet, that's pretty impressive. Also, as the name mentions, you'll also go in reverse and at the same speed.

Superman Krypton Coaster - Six Flags Fiesta Texas

What's awesome about this coaster? It's floorless. That way you feel like you flying like Superman. Not only will you soar up 168 feet in the air but this coaster also has a 145-foot-tall loop unlike any other around.

These are not for the faint of heart but for those of you who are adrenalin junkies there's good news. A couple of the above roller coasters are even in Arlington not too far away from Abilene. Grab some friends and family, hit the highway, and get ready for some high adventure.
