August 31st, 2019. A day that will be etched in the minds of Permian Basin residents for the rest of our lives. If you are a local, you remember it vividly. If you were a transplant at that time, only here for a short time to work, you won't soon forget. And if you happen to be a friend or family member of the victims and those affected, you will always honor, love and cherish your precious memories.

We are approaching the two year anniversary of the mass shooting that took place in Midland and Odessa on that fateful day. A memorial event which was to be held at UTPB to pay tribute to the victims has been canceled due to COVID.

However, there are a few other events and tributes that will still take place later this month. According to the oaoa.com flags will still be put up on the 2 year anniversary, Tuesday August 31st at Memorial Gardens off of 42nd st.

The City of Odessa is creating two videos that will honor the victims of the mass shooting and the Odessa Spire at 820 Maple Ave. is lit up a beautiful yellow and will remain so for the rest of the month of August in memory of those we lost and those injured.

Also, in April of this year, according to newswest9.com, it was announced that,

UTPB is partnering with Odessa Arts to build a memorial for the victims of the mobile mass shooting back in 2019.

At the time, planning had begun for a memorial that will be lit up with all of the victims names.
