Iggy Azalea and Talib Kweli Argue Over Her Response to Macklemore’s “White Privilege II”

It’s been a busy day on social media for Iggy Azalea. The Aussie MC and former XXL Freshman has been making headlines today (Jan. 22) after responding to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ new song, “White Privilege II,” in which she was named in the lyrics. Iggy responded almost as soon as the song dropped, defending her stance in rap and stating that she and Macklemore had been “friendly” before she heard the new record.

Later in the afternoon, rap vet Talib Kweli caught wind of Iggy’s response and had his own two cents to put on the subject. The Brooklyn MC fired off tweets saying that Iggy had no right to be mad and even answered some of Iggy’s fans.

Now, seemingly fed up with the criticism, Iggy has decided to address Talib on Twitter in a 20-tweet response (and counting). They’re really getting into it. Check out more of the conversation below.

In case you’re playing catch up, Macklemore’s latest track calls out many of today’s white artists for piggybacking and appropriating Black culture — Azalea being one of them. “You’ve exploited and stolen the music, the moment, the magic, the passion the fashion, you toy with/The culture was never, yours to make better/You’re Miley you’re Elvis, you’re Iggy Azalea,” Macklemore raps.

The internet as a whole has had a lot to say about the record upon its release, which was kind of the point, wasn’t it? Listen to “White Privilege II” for yourself to decide.
