WHY WE HATE YOLANDA SALDIVAR

Here is the "cliff notes version" because I could go on forever.

Yolanda first weaseled her way into Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla-Perez's life by calling Selena's dad to see if she could start Selena's fan club. With permission, Yolanda was able to start and grow the fan club to over 5,000 people. This kept her in close communication with Selena and soon gained her trust. Selena and Yolanda grew close and soon she was promoted to be the manager of Selena's clothing boutiques and accounts.

Over time the family started to realize Yolanda was not a good person. She became jealous of how Selena spent her time, especially if it was away from Yolanda.  Selena's father soon realized she was pocketing fan club memberships and not sending out merchandise.

Selena was going to fire Yolanda but Yolanda had important documents the family needed. Finally, Yolanda agreed to meet up with Selena. The two met at the hotel Yolanda stayed in on March 31, 1995. After an argument about the documents, they were eventually handed over to Selena. When Selena turned to leave, Yolanda shot Selena in the back at a Days Inn in Corpus Cristi, TX.

Yolanda Saldivar was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 30 years after the murder of Selena Quintanilla. When the sentence was first set 30 years felt like a lifetime but now here we are. On March 30, 2025, Yolanda will be eligible for parole.
