back to school

I went yesterday to buy my kids school supplies. My.least.favorite.thing.to.do. Seriously. Every year, even though I tell myself I'm going to get a head start, I do not and I end up frustrated at the store, going up and down every single aisle like other parents, mad as all get out because they never have what I'm looking for! Smh.

Ok so apparently ECISD has made some changes, updates to school starting here real soon. School for ECISD will now begin in phases, 4 phases to be exact with different ages and grade levels beginning at different times from now until Tuesday September 8th.

Since the first day of school is right around the corner and for those that are heading back to school this year, get ready because Tax Free weekend is almost here! Every year the beginning of August, in this case, Friday August 7th through Sunday August 9th, Texans can shop back-to-school supplies, clothing and shoes, tax free! I got the notification the other day from our school district as to how school will begin in the fall for the 2020-2021 school year. The choices for my hometown (Andrews) are full-time in person learning for students or full-time virtual online learning.

Let me start this post by saying I am not here to bash any school district first and foremost. I do not have the solution and I truly am praying for those who are trying to figure out the best course of action in having to make the tough decision as to whether or not school should resume as normal in the fall.

It's official, school is back in session for Odessa/Midland and surrounding areas! As a mom, I know how hard it is to get back into that routine. Mommin' ain't easy and especially when it comes to coordinating your schedule with your kiddos.

On Thursday August 1st from 4:30 to 7:30 pm, Oceans Behavioral Hospital of the Permian Basin will be hosting a back to school, school supply drive. Join them for a school supply drive benefitting Midland and Odessa students at 3300 S. FM 1788.

Since we are just days away from the first day of school, it is time to prepare. I legit just registered my kids for school this morning. Online. I've had the opportunity to do this for a few years now and can I say I love it! It is so easy and convenient. Well I happened to notice this morning that Midland just implemented the very same thing, online registration and it begins today!

So I was reading an article about how this Friday is the 'last summer Friday..' I had to think about it for a minute, what it meant and then I thought, ok I would say that is pretty accurate. This Friday is the final Friday in July which means once July is over we are officially in 'back-to-school' mode. Heck we've already bought school supplies!

The OPD Summer Block Party is right around the corner! Get ready for a day full of fun on Saturday August 3rd at Floyd Gwin Park (1015 N. County Road West). This event is free to the public and you can take photos with OPD officers & get your kids fingerprinted.
