The Many Murals Of The Sun City Captured By Christian Iglesias

The El Paso Downtown Arts District currently ranks 4th in the nation, and our mural art ranks 5th. Which makes a lot of sense considering the diversity of art styles that so many of our murals contain. Walk a few blocks downtown and you'll see 3D murals made of junk, murals painted to look 3D, original figures created by local artists, homages to historical figures that shaped El Paso. Nothing is off limits, and though only a few other cities have as many murals as ours, none capture a place quite as unique as the borderland.

From the work of viral artists like Christin Apodaca whose incredible line work has been featured on HBO, or muralists like Tino Ortega who created some of the most famous realistic balloon paintings in the city, to Adrian Wolf who has had the task of depicting some of our icons like AmigoMan! El Paso has no shortage of talented muralists, graffiti artists, and painters ready to cover the walls with something incredible.

Within the city are artists of all kinds, taking techniques and ideas from ancestors on both sides of the border. Each of them uses their skill, a history of practice and passion, and the history of both our people and the art they've created to craft images that tower over us. Imposing upon the city a reminder of the many places in the Americas from which we come. El Paso is a city of layered history and the many murals of our city capture the sun and gift it back to us on brick walls.
