May 2 Lubbock County General Election Results Are In!
For those in Lubbock who voted in the May 2 General Election, some may be surprised at how the numbers turned out. Let's go over the election results from the Lubbock County webpage.
It's important to keep in mind that these results are "unofficial," but some of the wide-margin victories can be taken as set in stone.
Cities of Abernathy and Idalou
With a total of 807 votes cast, three seats were up for grabs in the Abernathy City Council, and as of May 2, those will go to Matthew Speer (255 votes), Robert Prater (229 votes) and Eva L. Cortez (199 votes).
A total of 228 votes were cast for the two open seats in the Idalou City Council. Highlighting the top two candidates, 59 votes went to Joe Sisk, and 51 went to Darrell Fuller.
City of Lubbock Mayor and Council Members
There were a total of four seats open during the general election in Lubbock. City Council District 1 went to Christy Martinez with 575 votes out of 897.
City Council District 3 went to David Bruegel after he was the only candidate with over 50% voter support: 810 out of 1,506.
City Council District 5, with 100% of the 1,877 votes (yes, she was the only candidate), went to incumbent Jennifer Wilson.
Finally, Lubbock Mayor Mark McBrayer's two-year term was up this year, although he did run again as an incumbent. His voter support is still strong as he overwhelmingly won the race yet again, this time with over 70% of the votes. Out of 9,533 voters, 6,704 voted for McBrayer for a second term.
Stephen Sanders came in second for the race for Lubbock Mayor at 1,834 votes, while Peggy Bohmfalk (743 votes) and G. Todd Winans (252 votes) finished the ballot.

Cities of Shallowater and Slaton
City of Shallowater Alderman Places 1 and 5 were up for grabs this election cycle. Place 1 went to Ashley Carr with 81.73% of votes, while Place 5 went to Troy White with a whopping 90.99%.
The City of Slaton named Clif Shaw Mayor following the May 2 General Election as well with 346 votes—63.25%.
Overall General Election Voter Turnout
2026 Lubbock General Election voter turnout was very low, to say the least. Out of 184,974 registered voters in Lubbock County, only 12,188 actually cast a ballot. That's just 6.59% who actually went out and voted.
This problem of people not bothering to cast their votes seems to be a continual issue that many candidates across the county face. I just hope that when it comes down to it, those who didn't vote can be content with the final outcome.
