Avoid These Donation Mistakes at Goodwill in Texas
We always get the urge to declutter the house, and it can happen at different times of the year. When the weather is warm we usually have a garage sale. We get rid of most stuff, but some things are always left over.
After a garage sale, you might be tempted to throw away leftover items, but that feels like a waste. Donating unwanted items to Goodwill is a great way to keep them out of landfills. Goodwill accepts gently used items and uses the proceeds to fund programs that help people with disabilities and other disadvantages find employment.
Most people have good intentions when they donate to a local thrift shop. Goodwill is very good at accepting as many items as they can. They prefer gently used items to resell in their stores because every dollar they earn, 87 cents goes into mission programs that help people with disabilities and other disadvantages find employment.
Unfortunately, some people use Goodwill as a dumping ground for their unwanted stuff. This is why Goodwill has restrictions on the items they take. If an item can't be resold, Goodwill will recycle it. Recycling costs money, so the thrift store tries to keep the unwanted clutter to a minimum.
I love Goodwill and donate often. I recently came across a list of items that Goodwill will not accept. Some items are obvious, like guns and ammo, but other items surprised me.
Here is a list of items Goodwill will not accept, to save you a trip.
