Trayvon Martin’s Parents Discuss New Book, Son’s Legacy on ‘The Breakfast Club’ [VIDEO]

Trayvon Martin’s parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, appeared on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club on Monday (Feb. 6) to promote their new book, Rest In Power, and remember their son’s legacy. Trayvon’s birthday was yesterday (Feb. 5) and he would’ve been 22 years old.

Martin and Fulton talked about the pain of losing a child to senseless violence and not being able to forgive their son’s killer George Zimmerman for his actions. “We have other kids to live for,” said Martin on moving from his grief. “My son’s gone, and there’s really nothing that I can do to bring him back. I think the best thing that I can do is go out and fight for justice and uphold to Trayvon’s name.”

The parents was also against George Zimmerman fighting DMX in a celebrity boxing match. Martin wanted to know how could anyone call themselves a celebrity for killing a child.

Martin and Fulton also talked about connecting with other families who are also have been affected by police violence including the families of Sandra Bland, Eric Garner and Oscar Grant. “We just try to lift each other up, said Fulton, “so that we can start healing and helping others to heal.”

As for writing the book, Rest in Power, Martin and Fulton said, understandably, that it was difficult to write. The pair wrote alternate chapters in the book.

They also expressed disappointment in that Donald Trump is now our president and they also hinted a possible movie about Trayvon Martin’s life could be in the works.
