According to UFC Champion Conor McGregor, there is no such thing is talent . . . and I think he makes a really good point. Conor was quoted as saying this when asked about his talent in the world of martial arts, "There's no talent here. This is hard work. This is an obsession. Talent does not exist. We are all equals as human beings. You could be anyone. If you put in the time, you will reach the top, and that's that. I am not talented, I'm obsessed."

I can definitely relate. While I'm not a nationally syndicated radio personality, it is a goal. I was given a tiny chance with a 2 minute segment on one of our sister stations by our market president and I'll be damned if I'm not going to milk it for everything it's worth. It went from that, to a DJ, and now I do quite a few things here at my radio home. Obsession is an understatement for me.

If you ask those who know me best to define me with one word, the word they'd choose is "opportunist". I think it comes from my extreme hunger from a young age for a career in music. All musicians in the 432 who are serious about what they do, know that you have to look at everything as an opportunity and never get caught sleeping. With all of that said, I'd like to take this opportunity to raise a glass and toast all the people out there who hear, "It's time to grow up and get a real job", on a regular basis.

Anyone who follows what they love and puts it above everything else, suffers from a daily dose of crippling self doubt spent wondering if they're just being stupid, and maybe it's time to give up and listen to everyone else. Let me be one of the few people to tell you not to listen to them. They're miserable at their jobs and misery loves company.

Put in the time. If you're not hitting with it everything you have to give then don't expect to succeed. Only you know when you're giving your all. Don't base YOUR "all" on what those around you do. Honestly put everything you have into what you love. Never stop getting better at it. Never make the mistake of thinking, "Oh, I'm better than the guy next to me so that should be good enough." If you aren't better today than you were yesterday at what you want to do for a living then you took a day off, and there's no room for days off if you're looking to be great at something.

Be great at something. DO YOU!
