Odessa

Despite the last couple of days feeling like summer,  believe it or not, this Thursday, snow could be falling in the Permian Basin. We have sunny days most of this week with a 20% chance of snow as we look toward the weekend. In case you are not from Midland/Odessa, here are some good things to know as we gear up for the snowfall. And by that I mean probably little to no accumulation...usually. lo

You probably just had family from out-of-town staying with you for the holidays. It happens maybe a handful of times throughout the year that relatives come for a visit and in some cases, it is your duty to entertain. So where would you take someone who is not from here? Is there even anything to do in Odessa? You would be surprised.

Are you a straw person? I have to to have a straw with every drink. Water, tea, soda. Even my coffee at work, I use the stirrer as a straw. At restaurants they typically give you straws with whatever you order to drink but at home it is entirely up to you to have them or not.

Not all fries are created equal. It is up to you how you like your fries. Extra salty, steak, thin, crispy, crinkle, no salt, ketchup, no ketchup? I will go for crinkle any day but sometimes I like to change it up. Thank goodness for the many options we have here in the 432 to satisfy my french fry taste buds.

Our family loves to travel. Always on the go for real. Which means we meet lots of different people from all walks of life and even though I'm not much of a small talker (shocker I know) my man is, so it is not unusual to engage in conversation with complete strangers on the regular.

Midland and Odessa have grown so much in recent years it is both unbelievable and even unrecognizable in some cases. If you happen to end up in a certain neighborhood that you haven't been to in awhile, you may be surprised to find out that it looks completely different. That was the case for me the other day in Odessa.

Who remembers...growing up going with your parents or grandparents to eat at Furr's in the Odessa mall? I sure do! And I would continue to go up until last year when they closed their doors for good after what we thought was temporarily shutting down in 2020 due to the pandemic. So myself along with many Odessans wondered what would take its place? And now we have our answer...

Be real. As a parent, anytime you go to the mall, you do what you can to distract the kids from the candy store or the popcorn place, or even the Dippin' Dots, geez the struggle is real. That was me the other day at the Odessa mall as I was strolling for the after Christmas sales. But it didn't work. My child found the 'hot, new thing,' a cool new place that we just had to step into.

It seems like anywhere you drive these days, in Midland or Odessa, you will come upon road construction in some capacity. Because I commute daily, I run into a lot of detours and long lines and one lane roads because the other is being repaired and so on so forth.
