On Saturday (Aug. 14), Milwaukee police shot and killed 23-year-old Sylville Smith during a foot pursuit. The alleged shooter is Officer Dominique Heaggan-Brown, who also happens to be an amateur rapper, according to the New York Daily News.

Smith's death sparked three days of protests and chaos in Milwaukee. Citizens were outraged at another police killing, and they took to the streets to make their voices heard. Smith's sister, Sherelle Smith, tells the New York Daily News that Heaggan-Brown knew her brother from their high school days. Details about the shooting are scarce at the moment.

Heaggan-Brown raps under the moniker KB Domo. Interestingly enough, on his "Monster (Freestyle)," he drops the line, "I'mma start a riot like Baltimore." However, the lyric is likely a non-story, as anybody familiar with the culture knows that an MC might use a certain bar for no particular reason.

The other MC on the record, Dae Flywalker, spoke with Breaking & Entering about Smith, his grade-school friend and collaborator. Flywalker says, “I was in shock and disbelief just like everyone else that knew him or grew up with him. I was aware that he was an officer like most people. When we did have a chance to hang out it was pure kicking it, or he would pop up at some of my shows in support sometimes.”

The past few months have been full of turmoil across the country, as dealings between police and citizens have intensified due to killings in Louisiana, Minnesota, Texas and more. In case you missed it, see how hip-hop reacted to the Alton Sterling and Philando Castile deaths.
