Kid from Kid ‘N Play Apologizes for Colin Kaepernick Skit: ‘I Stand With Kaepernick’
As you may recall, Fox Sports personality Jason Whitlock posted a photo of Kid donning an Afro wig portraying the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback. Whitlock maintains that he wasn’t poking fun at Kaepernick, who has been blackballed by the NFL for kneeling during the national anthem last season.
Recently, Kid went on his Facebook page to apologize for his actions while at the same time he threw Whitlock under the bus. In his lengthy message, the 53-year-old rapper-actor said that he supports Kaepernick. He writes:
Let me address the elephant in the room (and no, I don’t mean Whitlock)…let me be clear: the skit and photo were not meant to disrespect Colin’s message or political stance. Rather, we wanted to spoof the media’s treatment of him and the circus that has been created. I understand that Whitlock has been a vocal critic of Colin so the optics of the photo have got me looking crazy. Anyone who knows me knows where I stand on Colin Kaepernick — exactly where he stands.”
Kid went on to further to explain that he understood what Kaepernick was protesting about with his stance last year.
“Being born and raised in NYC I grew up seeing and reading about dozens of acts of police brutality,” he wrote. “And the same way we know the names of Tamir Rice, Philando Castile and Michael Brown today, I grew up knowing the same fate had come to Eleanor Bumpurs, Amadou Diallo, and Abner Louima. Sadly, little has changed.”
