A few days ago, Eminem announced his return to the rap game with "Walk on Water," a new Beyoncé-assisted single that finds the Detroit rapper reflecting on his place in an ever-evolving rap landscape. After opening up the 2017 MTV EMAs with a performance of his new self-critical track, Em took home the trophy for Best Hip Hop, even though he hasn't dropped a new project in over four years. It seems more than a few people still appreciate the legendary rhyme-slinger.

For his part, Em, who's gearing up to drop his Revival album, expressed a good bit of surprise over the win. Even though it's been a while since he even dropped some new music. "I'm not really sure how I got this because I haven't had an album out in a few years," Em told the crowd. From there, he took the time to give a shout-out to Chuck D and B-Real, two rap legends who presented him the trophy. It was a dope moment for hip-hop.

Of course, Eminem wasn't the only rapper who contributed to a dope awards show. French Montana and Swae Lee had their turn to rock the stage with an electric live rendition of French's hit single, "Unforgettable." Shortly after that, Travis Scott hit the stage to perform "Butterfly Effect," a single from his forthcoming AstroWorld album. Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar took home the trophy for Best Video.
