I just had a rude awakening about yet another thing that is different about school from when I went back in the day. My 8 year old son's school supply list called for 40 sharpened pencils. When I saw that I jokingly made the comment, 'do they not have pencil sharpeners in the classroom?'

Apparently they do not....at least not like the one I grew up with. Remember the cool pencil sharpener that was attached to the wall and would make a crazy noise when you would get up and sharpen your pencil? A coworker of mine that used to work for the schools said that where she worked they had removed them for 'safety reasons.' OMG! That was part of the fun, getting to go sharpen your pencil, disrupt the class with the noise, get a giggle or two then poke your friend in the arm as you walked back to your desk. lol Was I the only clown that did that? Either way, do these 'old school' pencil sharpeners still exist in your kid's school? Pay attention when you go meet the teacher this week.
