As the rest of the world not-so-quietly debates the merits of Batman vs. Superman’s box office, another superhero movie is quietly setting some more records of its own. After 45 days in theaters, Deadpool has now passed The Matrix Reloaded to become the all-time worldwide box office champ for R-rated movies.

After this weekend, Deadpool’s total worldwide box-office is currently $745,974,060, which is enough to put it past the Matrix sequel’s former record of $742,128,461. While Deadpool is the biggest worldwide R-rated movie, it still has to catch two films to get to the top spot on the domestic box-office list. Currently Deadpool has grossed $349 million in the United States and stands behind American Sniper and The Passion of the Christ. It almost assuredly will catch American Sniper’s $350 million mark, likely in the next day or so, but the $20 million to catch Mel Gibson’s Passion seems possible, but unlikely.

Deadpool adds the highest grossing R-rated movie worldwide to its list of box office records it has broken so far including:

- The biggest R-rated opening weekend ever
- The biggest opening in 20th Century Fox history
- The biggest February opening weekend
- The biggest X-Men movie of all time
- The biggest opening for a first-time director

That’s pretty impressive stuff for a movie that cost $50 million that almost didn’t get made.

While Fox still hasn’t set a release date for Deadpool 2, the record-breaking original arrives on DVD and Blu-ray on May 10.
