Radio legend Casey Kasem passed away yesterday.

When I was a kid I use to grab my cassette recorder and pretend I was Casey Kasem. There was not a Sunday morning that I wouldn't hear his countdown or record them. My mom has so many cassettes of his show and me pretending to be him.

Well here I am in radio for 25 years and yes it's because of Casey. I was so influenced by him that I knew I wanted to get in radio and do a countdown. My first countdown came back in 1992 when I worked for Foxy 106 here in Midland. I did the night show and started the Power 5 at 9. It was my way of doing what I had always dreamed of when listening to Casey.

When I first started in radio back in 1989 in El Paso I would run Casey's Top 40 countdown off vinyl every Sunday morning at the radio station. I wasn't even talking on the air yet; my only job was to come in and run the countdown.

Casey was the man and every person in radio owes him a 'Thankyou' for paving the way back in the day.

"Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars"; Casey Kasem
