Nelly has been a hot topic over the weekend after he was arrested and accused of rape yesterday (Oct. 7) in Washington. But fellow musician Akon isn't buying it.

The singer was spotted by TMZ in LAX yesterday, and he weighed in on the drama that has befallen his friend.

"Not the Nelly I know," Kon responded when asked if thought the rapper was capable of what he is being accused of. "He's an amazing person, man. I just know how scary these situations can be. I'm almost 100 percent positive he's innocent."

Akon thinks people of Nelly's stature become targets for false allegations. "Often times those are the situations that you have to be mindful of anyway, because people like us are licks for these girls now. We are targets on every level. Half the time, they'll set up a charge just for us to settle out. Just so we don't deal with the embarrassment and go through the process of fighting it. Once you get that stigma, it's on you whether you are guilty or not."

As previously reported, Nelly was arrested yesterday morning (Oct. 7) after a woman accused him of raping her on his tour bus in Auburn, Wash. The St. Lunatic was later released without charges being filed pending further investigation.

Nelly has come out to deny any wrongdoing. “Let me say that I am beyond shocked that I have been targeted with this false allegation,” he wrote on Twitter. “I am completely innocent. I am confident that once the facts are looked at , it will be very clear that I am the victim of a false allegation…I do want to apologize to my loved ones for the embarrassment and for putting myself in a situation where I could be victimized by this false and defaming allegation,” he added.
