6ix9ine may have been set up.

Following reports on Sunday (July 22) that the "Gummo" rapper was hospitalized after being robbed at gunpoint, he appeared Monday (July 23) on TMZ Live and called the attack an inside job.

Tekashi confirmed several details from his reported testimony to New York police. He claims he was in the passenger seat of a car driving in Brooklyn early Sunday morning when another car bumped them from behind. Two men exited, approached 6ix9ine's vehicle, struck him in the head with a handgun and placed him in their own car.

"It just happened so quick," he said. "All I saw was the gun come at my face, and when I woke up, I was in the back seat of a car."

When he regained consciousness, the rapper born Daniel Hernandez says he offered the robbers jewelry stored at his house if they spared his life. Their response made him suspicious.

"I didn't tell 'em where I lived," he continued. "They went to the front of my house. So it was like somebody must've told them where I lived. They'd been following me or watching me. It was like an inside job."

Footage from a security camera down the street, obtained by law enforcement, shows the suspects' vehicle outside 6ix9ine's house, according to TMZ.

Hours after the altercation, Tekashi released a music video for "Fefe" featuring Nicki Minaj. He later thanked the spirit of XXXTentacion for protecting his life in an Instagram post.
